Hi captain Australia,

Big fan of your work, truely inspirational
But I was just wondering if you have a successor for the future?
You know, somebody who lives up to you and continues your work
I would love to hear that from you

Sincerely, Jeff

Hi Captain

Just a note to say I am concerned about your absence. Hope everything is alright. All the best.

The Philosopher July 3, 2011 at 7:29 am

Captain Australia.

I am not your enemy nor do I intend to be. What you are doing may have the best intentions but I fear that it will lead to a disatorous concequence and a price you may never be able to repay. I know that you will not change your mind so I ask that you only heed to my words.

You no doubt know the risk to yourself you take when you go out and “patrol” the streets, I ask you if you know the risk to those around you and and those you care about if you continue these “heroics”. For if someone someone as “good and rightious” as you can exist then surely someone “depraved and evil” can exist aswell.

If someone like that were ever to see you as a true threat or just decide to take you out “for fun”, then those who are close by you may be the first to pay the price. if you believe that you HAVE no one like that by you then any bystander will be on the firing line to get your attention. Despite what the movies show, no amount of martial arts training can stop a bullet or bomb. when an evil man has intent to kill, he will. Such men do exist and over 700 years of history shows that a man with a gun can easily beat a well trained soldier with a sword. you are not bullet proof and such armour is illegal in Ausrtalia.

When you don belt and suit, most may laugh at you in the street, some will love you but there is a very real chance that one day you will meet the one in the billions that will seek your demise. You may be trying to protect others but I believe you are putting more in danger.

You may see that your identity is a secret and that no one can find you, but in this day and age of technology, you would soon be found by the most novice of computer hackers. your life revealed and your friends and family located. Even the most up to date protection systems are out of date within the week. Having a website is just asking them to find you through the pay records of keeping the website running.
everything you post on this page has your “return address” with it

Also. You seem to encourage those who you dont know, except through email, to “take up the flag of justice and fight crime”. those you “inspire” are also YOUR RESPONSIBILITY as a role model.

A stuntman with years of experience will tell those who he inspires “dont try this at home!”. I ask that you consider doing the same. There are fools out there who believe if someone like you can protect the world, they can too. I take your word that you are specially trained and can do as you say but others may try the same and get themselves killed or worse. The classic line “with great power comes great responsibility”

Finally, I say that there are many types of hero. A hero is not decided by walking patrols or wearing a costume. Being a good person makes a hero. A hero is a man who does what is right when chance comes along to help another person. You dont need a costume to make the world a better place. you dont need to be out at night looking for a rapist or murderer. A hero is someone whol helps someone carry a load of boxes to thier car. A hero is someone who gives another some extra change at the till when the person infront is looking for those few five cent pieces. A hero walks a drunk man home safely. These things may not be Super in the grand scheme but to that person, it was super of you to do so.

And, if you are still longing for that heroic calling then join the police as a volunteer. Join the S.E.S. and help those who are in constant need. Take on a job with looking after children in a rough part of town and teaching them the right things to do, for it is the children who are forgotten by the world of today that become the criminals of tomorrow.

Catching a thief today is only a temporary fix to the problem that is crime. He will be released in a few years and go back to what he was doing. TEACHING a child that there is another way to get what you want other than stealing will see him never becoming that theif. giving a youth the chance that he or she deserves is what a true hero would do.
fighting crime with violence will bring only more violence.
WORKING against crime gets the job done.

Stormdragon July 4, 2011 at 5:40 pm

To “The Philosopher”. I would like to reply for myself (as I do not speak for the Captain). You have clearly missed both the point and the context of what the Captain and his mission are about.
Firstly the whole point is that there is risk! One of the major issues with the modern world and the current pervading culture (which the attitude you express here seems to exemplify) is this attitude of indifference to the suffering of others and the lack of desire by ordinary (eg. those not paid to do it!) people to stand up for those more vulnerable. For some this may simply be to dial 000 but for someone like the Cap that can be much more direct. The “superhero” is a well known archetype and his chosen mode to deliver this message.
As for a risk from being shot or blown up- While gun crime is an issue in Australia it is still astonishingly rare. Knife and gang bashing is the real issue and the Cap is well aware that he needs to address issues with his equipment to protect himself better from this. Remember that in the UK which has – similar gun laws and firearm crime that we do, the police, for the most part do not carry guns themselves. It is pretty clear that the Cap takes far more risk driving to a patrol than doing it. Certainly his chance of facing a knife or a gang is a much bigger risk (many times over!) than being shot at.
As for your issues with inspiration – you seem to answer your own question with the last paragraph. Perhaps you are not very aware of how the Cap operates and the way he deals with people. The whole point is people SHOULD have the guts to stand up- some times this can and does end in tragedy BUT the cost of not doing so- in the long run- is far greater.
It is much like those that tried to avoid confronting Hitler before WWII (on in the case of the US until 41). They were scared of the costs, the risk and of sticking their neck out… If we allow the unjust, the bullies, those who use violence to intimidate and the corrupt to push us around and sit back and say- oh it’s not OUR job the police should do something… Then we are just cowards and we are letting the bad guys win.
Society NEEDS colourful eccentric and brave individuals like the Cap to make a point and he has simply chosen a well known pop culture meme to highlight and illustrate this point and do more than if he just went out on his own dressed normally would every do (or even be noticed!). The Superhero archetype is well known and brings with it all of the inherent meaning from the characters so prominent in pop culture – stand up for truth justice (superman), power brings responsibility (spiderman) the unjust need to be stood up to (Batman) we need to all get on despite our differences (Xmen) and so on.
People like the Cap, are effectively modern day self aware Don Quixote’s – eccentrics, ridiculous even…but it would be a sad world indeed without them.

storm dragon, U R A FUCKWIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u live in a comic book fantasy and u think u and ca are better than everyone else. i bet the reason ca isint with us is because he is lying dead in a trash can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u should head the philosophers words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Captain Australia July 24, 2011 at 3:53 am

Anonymity is a funny thing – being anonymous on the internet enables people to act without dignity and venture opinions to people that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to look in the eye if they met face to face.
The thing is, just because you can act without dignity doesnt mean that you should.
“Urban Guardian”, I’d urge you to think carefully about who you are, who you want to be, and what mark you would want to leave on the world. Everything we do, everything we say, touches the lives of others, in either positive or negative ways.
I”d implore you to think of that.
For the record, I am not dead in a trash can, I have had to take an extended leave from my Mission as Captain Australia for two primary reasons:
1) the birth of my son, who has required my direct care for the last several months
2) my uniform is no longer servicable, it has taken damage and needs to be re-worked. Kind people are helping me with that, but in the meantime I don’t have the uniform, which is my symbol.
I’ll keep you up to date, and apologise that I haven’t been making regular public updates – there’s been nothing to say : the secret identity life has taken over for the short term.

Captain Australia

urban guardian July 25, 2011 at 1:37 am

I dont care weather people know my name or not.
U are a hipporcrite if u are critisising people over anonimity. u your self have never met me or anyone else on this blog, u use captain australia as a mask to sheild your self from being shunned in scocioty; I do not, I dont wear a mask , i dont care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY Real name if you must know is Ben whitmore and I live in adelaide! see if u can do that? . . . not so tuff now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Captain Australia July 25, 2011 at 11:15 pm

I think you missed my point entirely.
Yes, I wear a mask.
But no, I do NOT use my anonymity as an excuse to behave like an aggressive, judgemental and abusive individual. In fact, when I wear my mask, I hold myself to a higher moral standard, and give all people their dignity, be they homeless, drunk, lost, victims, aggressors, I behave respectfully toward everybody.
I wear a mask to protect my family from rebuke from abusive people out there in the wide world, people who can’t or won’t control their abuse. People like you.
I can help you become a better person. Do you want to ?
Your friend

ben Whitmore (formally urban guardian) July 27, 2011 at 12:56 am

4 questions:

1. what gives u the right when according to you others dont?

2. what crimes have u acctually solved as CA?

3. do you think you can fight crime better than me? . . . I’m a REAL WICCAN!

4. Whats ur opinion on the new captain america film?

Mark Grewar July 28, 2011 at 8:31 pm

Good on you Captain Australia – I could have used you on night shift working Transperth a few years ago. We need lots more heros like you.

Urban Avenger August 1, 2011 at 1:36 am

hey,l the real urban avenger here. captain australia, you know I’m a huge supporter of yours. I hope you are doing well and I hope some day you can return to your RLSH endeavors. life takes priority my brother/

as for urban guardian/ben whitmore… what does being a wiccan have to do with ANYTHING sir?

Urban Avenger August 1, 2011 at 1:39 am

oh, and one other thing. I’m getting really tired of this “this is MY real name” business. first of all, so what? second of all, prove it. this is still the internet, so revealing your real name is like doing a google image search for a “male” and using that as YOUR photo. means absolutely nothing.

Scott Black August 1, 2011 at 3:21 am

The Runcorn Watcher October 1, 2011 at 8:22 am

Hi Captain Australia, I’ve spent the past 24yrs in Brisbane and have seen, heard and experienced the unpleasant things that happen to people in the least expected situations. I live in Runcorn and currently teach 70+ friends Boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ, Security Controlling, Kungfu, weaponry (includes battons, kubotan, maglite, torches, sais, long staff, walking stick, swords, broadsword, knives and nunchakus), and primary self defense for both men & women. No I do not have a licence to teach so I teach everyone free of charge as I dedicate my knowledge time, place, eqiupment and effort to help others that may find it useful one day to protect themselves and their love ones. I often walk my dogs at night with my torch and patrol Runcorn area. 6 known incidents occured within this half year around my area but nothing I can do because I was not there on site. But I believe I would be able to stop all these incidents with the skills & knowledge I have if only I was there… afterall, I’m only an average person with no superpowers, I can’t protect everyone; but I will do my best when an incident happens to anyone I see.

Of course we’ll try to leave matters to the police when something happens, but as we all know, when police arrives, things are too late. As a teenager, I’ve been in numerous streetfights with & without weapons, gangs or no gangs in the valley and other suburbs. My boys used to be the troublemakers of the crowd and I cleanup their messes, I can cope 1 vs 3-4 average grown men at the same time, and had fought at most (with my brother) 2 against 16 gang members (bothsides with weapons); and I had never lost a single fight within all these years of fighting. Even though now I’m a steady person with a house, a fiance’, a job and a peaceful life; I can say I’ve been out and I’ve seen alot of bad things happen. I do support you, and admire you for standing out there without caring about embarassment or taking crap from reporters etc. Just becareful out there as many do carry knives, and I believe if you’re barehanded facing up again a slightly skilled person with a well manufactured blade, do not take the risk without any weaponry. I’m an expert in weapons and many of my weapons can be easily purchased online with a little search therefore if I can find it, others can too. Most of my knives are so well manufactured that I can EASILY stab through a bulletproof vest with a leather jacket on top and STILL with at least 5cm of the knife blade into flesh, so just becareful out there.

Finally I salute to you and wish you best of luck and take good care. As I always remind my 70+ students, practice daily & as frequently as you can, for that you will never know when it will save a life.

Your Friend,

The Runcorn Watcher

DangerWoman October 28, 2011 at 8:58 pm

Hello, Captain Austraila-

This is Danger Woman, coming to you LIVE and in 3-D Stereo from Atlanta,Georgia USA.

I just wanted to stop by and check in with you and bring you up to date on what has been going on since you last heard me.

On April 28th, 2011, Feedback became a first time father to a cute little boy, who now goes by the codename of Little Feedbit.

I did go to St. Louis, Missouri USA this past summer, only to encounter some serious disabaphobia while I was there, especially at the St. Louis Zoo, as mentioned on The Yogi Bear Show on Boomerang from Cartoon Network.

Dragon Con 25 really did show their Silver And Shine, in Atlanta, Georgia USA, during the Labor Day Weekend, with Ernest Borgnine, Carrie Fisher, Martin Landau, William Shatner and Stan Lee.

And NO VISIT to DragonCon is ever complete without seeing my Danger Woman concert, in which I do sing songs of the day, anime/movie/sentai/televsion theme songs and some original songs that I have wrote.

And the best part of the show, is teaching the fans how to do “The Axel F Walk”, wiith the Rodeo Slide and The Gucci!

I should also mention that I did the song, in which we remember those who died, those “Victims Of Goodbye”, sang my Rendition of “Colors Of The Wind”, Sang both versions of “The Theme From NightMan”, in which I am very honored to have written lyrics to Marc Bonilla’s music and sang my latest hit, Fight Back, Feedback!

I also did some photo shoots, got the honor of doing a photo shoot with Stan Lee, in which he autographed the picture of the two of us and that I made a serious promise to him that I would protect Feedback and Sarah and Little Feedbit.

I will admit that I did have a great time and it was worth it.

I should also mention that I went to Hot Springs, Arkansas USA, to do The Hot Springs Film Festival to promote my movie, Disabled But Able To Rock!

At least I got to meet Crossfire the Crusader, who gave my movie his seal of approval and was able to take a soak in their mineral baths.

Trembling timecheckis! It is getting very late in Atlanta, Georgia USA.

But, DO NOT be sad, Captain.

You will hear from me again soon.

Until we meet on the net, GAME ON!

Midnight November 9, 2011 at 9:06 pm

Hi Captain Australia, I previously posted up my details & extensive martial arts skills but unfortunately nothing was processed. Please let me if there would be an opportunity to meet you in person along with fellow members around the area so we can discuss further what we can do to make our city a safer and more peaceful place. As we all know police can only be a “response team” usually after when an incident has happened. Securities can only do so much to keep themselves out of trouble. Homeless people may need our help to give them food, water & shelter. I would like to be apart of the team and join in co-operation with fellow heros around the world. Please contact me, thanks.

Midnight – Brisbane, Australia

Watchmen of the Animal Kingdom,

I’m in Melbourne also, flick me an email. I’d love to help you guys out with everything you do! I’m also new to the game, but hopefully we can get a team going. I’m a huge animal lover, grew up on a ranch and now days donate a lot to animal shelters to try and house as many as possible to try and prevent the inevitable.

The Fauna Fighters December 13, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Hi Vegas,
Sounds great – are you on Facebook?
Thanks again, FF.

Vegas December 21, 2011 at 5:59 am

Hey guys,

Not yet, but i will be soon. Just getting the final touches sorted. Post me a link here and I’ll add you soon.

Vegas November 29, 2011 at 6:48 am

Hey Cap,
Firstly, love your work. Especially being a deterrent, i hope to become a similar symbol one day soon.
I’m also looking to have a quick chat about a few things if possible. Nothing too major, just stuff about getting over initial speed bumps, fears, staying dedicated and so forth. If you would be so kind, i’d appreciate a quick email that i’ll reply back too with a few cheeky topics i could use help with.

Thanks in advance,

Skatebro May 30, 2012 at 7:21 am

I was skating in Perth yesterday and saw a dude steal a handbag from a group of women, I figured that I’d do something that’d prove to myself that I was capable of doing things to make the world better for it, so I turned my board around, passed it to a nearby bystander, chased after him and tackled him to the ground, he gave me a good bruise in the side and chin. I managed to grab the handbag and knock him out cold on the concrete. A lot of people looked at me like I was a criminal like him, but I guess that happens and when I turned around and my board was gone.

The ladies were happy though and they put forward the cash for a new board, which was nice of them. Thanks for the Inspiration Cap.

Citizen Jane December 4, 2012 at 8:25 pm

Dear Captain Australia,

I love your work! It’s so great to see someone trying to make a positive change in our society. I like how you ended your profile description with “the only way to fight darkness .. is to light a candle.” so simple, yet so powerful.

I have a question for you. Have you read Alan Moore’s graphic novel “Watchmen”? A great story from the 80’s about how superheros would exist in the real world.
I now think of you as a “Watchman.”

King Regards,

Captain Australia December 10, 2012 at 3:12 am

Hello Jane

Thank you for your kindness.

I’ve taken a leave-of-absence from my dual life as Captain Australia. I cannot disclose too much information without risking compromise to my secret identity, but I have a child due to be born any time now.

I will resume my Quest next year, but for now I am just attending to issues and referring or escalating anything that looks serious.

I actually have read “Watchmen” as my brother is a great fan and recommended it to me, I quite enjoyed it.

I am continually trying to refine and improve both myself and my mission. After some heavy training, I plan to get back into active duty around March 2013. But for the meantime … daddy-hood calls.

If there is a spiritual meaning to my life, it is wrapped up in the joy and love I have for my children. If there is a philosophical meaning to my life, it is defined in my Quest as Captain Australia.

Thank you again for your kind words.

Your friend,

Captain Australia
