Anyone else ready for the weekend? It’s been a great week, but I started noticing a slightly frazzled tone in the email messages of my friends here at Bay Area for Bernie along about 3 p.m. yesterday. Before you head off to your Friday happy hour hangout (mine is in bed with Beau the Cat and a Stephen King novel), check out what’s been happening this week:
Number of the Week: 100,000, the number of people who RSVP’d to Bernie’s nationwide kickoff rally, hosted at 3,500 events. The Bay Area had around 100 of those, and members of Bay Area for Bernie were at several. Margaret Okuzumi of Silicon Valley for Bernie hosted a party in Cupertino for 300 people, and Mike K. and I trotted down to an event in Berkeley with more than 100.
- Oakstop in Oakland
- Oakstop in Oakland
- Firehouse Art Collective
- House party in San Francisco
- Slate Bar in San Francisco
- Richmond
So that explains some of the frazzled email one.
Quote of the Week: “We have the people.”
Long Article of the Week: Vox’s Ezra Klein interviewed Bernie. There are video clips with dramatic closeups of Bernie’s finger nails. Bernie says, “That’s a great question” a lot, and frankly, he’s right.
Flabbergasted PR Person of the Week: Bernie’s communications director, Michael Briggs, sounds appalled: “He goes on for an hour—long, eat-your-spinach kind of speeches. And people are clapping for it!”
Like This Eat-Your-Spinach Speech: Bernie made some beautiful remarks at the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
It’s Nice to See Reporters Using the Word ‘Quixotic’ in Print: Arit John at Bloomberg Politics analyzes Bernie’s Southern strategy.
Hey, We’re Getting a Podcast! Alan M. and Mike K. are starting a podcast soon.
But we need your help! This weekend, they’ll be interviewing Lauren Steiner, the organizer of L.A. for Bernie, as well as a member of the Socialist Alternative. By tonight at 6 p.m. (Friday, July 31),
What’s Next: We’re getting a calendar soon, so check back next week – it’s going to be the best, most luxurious event calendar you’ve ever seen. (See – the Donald Trump effect is hitting even the Democratic primary.) Also coming up next week: Tips from volunteers on tabling.
Enjoy your weekend, y’all! (The Rick Perry Effect that time.)

My wife and I walk at Chrissy Field 3 days a week and would like to give buttons or bumper stickers to interested Bernie voters. Can you help me get these items? We have given $200 to Bernie for President 2016.

We had a second meeting of San Leandro Castro Valley organizers for Bernie Aug 5. We will tentatively be meeting at the pub the Englanders soon and Zocola’s Coffee house 7PM Thurs. August 27. It was great to have Jeromy tell us bout Bay Area for Bernies and folks want to leaflet the Wed. night farmers market. Any materials/suggestions available for leafleting?
Hi Jim – Thanks for writing. Would you mind sending email to events@bayareforbernie.com and letting us know the details of your meetings and plans for leafletting the farmers market? The short answer is that yes, we can provide materials.
Best,
chris.
