It’s September. Republicans in Congress are considering shutting down the government. I think I’ve seen this movie before.
I can’t say for certain – I haven’t run numbers – but it does seem that this was the week that the Serious National Media started acting serious. So let’s review:
Number of the Week: 200,000, the number of grassroots volunteers working for the Bernie campaign.
Bernie Soundbite of the Week:
I would hope, and I conclude with this thought, I would hope very much that as part of that discussion and part of that learning process, some of you will conclude that if we are honest in striving to be a moral and just society, it is imperative that we have the courage to stand with the poor, to stand with working people and when necessary, take on very powerful and wealthy people whose greed, in my view, is doing this country enormous harm.
His high school English teacher needs to be fired. That’s called a run-on, Senator.
Tweet of the Week:

#WeWantDebate: Simon Rosenberg, former DNC official, points out that not only does the number of Democratic primary debates limit America’s exposure to the candidates; so does the when and where of the debates.
Objective News Outlet Releases Totally Straight-Forward, Well Researched Article About Bernie: Just kidding. The Wall Street Journal, which is best read while one is wearing one’s finest velour smoking jacket and resting one’s feet on the back of one’s manservant, kinda got that $18 trillion figure wrong.
I Just Don’t Get How We Can Allow This To Happen in Our Country: The Atlantic published a long interview with the authors of $2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America. Takes a strong stomach to read it.
I’m Not Even Going to Bother Telling You About the Republican Debate: If you saw it, you don’t want to hear about it more. If you didn’t, you’re one of the lucky ones.
That’s it for me this week. Enjoy your weekend – weather.com promises us a warm, but I’ve been fooled by them before.
The header image is from Oakland Pride and was taken by yours truly. That booth was so gay.

I’m organizing a Honk & Wave plus commuter outreach at Ashby BART, every last Wednesday of the month from 5-6 pm, with music by Occupella (and you!). I’ve decided to have a theme each month. This month’s theme (not coincidentally) is Planned Parenthood, reproductive rights and the Republicans’ threatened government shutdown. Bring signs!
