Wright-Way Rescue's
Foster Care Program
Foster Type: PUPPY & KITTEN (Baby)
Length Of Time Commitment: Until the litter or pet reaches 8-9 weeks of age
Puppies and kittens are a great deal of fun to foster. They also require a great deal of work! Foster homes applying for puppy/kitten care should be able to check on their fosters during the daytime if they work. They should also have a large crate (for kittens) or a large puppy pen (for puppies) available to contain their foster pets in when unsupervised.
We are always looking for dedicated foster homes for dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. Foster program candidates can range in age from newborns to seniors. Animals most in need of foster homes are typically thiose who are either to young for our adoption program, or need work on socialization or obedience training. Some simply need to learn how to live in an indoor family setting. Your time fostering equals a higher chance of sucess when that pet does find a permanent home.
The length of each foster situation varies based on the needs of that pet. Typically puppies and kittens will be with a foster home until they reach 8-9 weeks. Adult dogs and cats are usually there until a home is found which can range from 2 weeks to several months. For families who cannot make a longterm commitment to a pet we have our "Weekend Get-A-Way Package".
As a foster home your responsibilities would include providing your foster pet with good nutrition and water, safe toys, basic training, and lots of love. You would also be responsible for transporting this pet to and from adoption events, scheduled veterinary appointments (at one of our vets in either DesPlaines or Park Ridge), and giving needed medications.
To become a foster parents please fill out our online FOSTER APPLICATION. Our foster home coordinator will contact you to discuss what type of foster animal may work well in your family. Please ensure that before applying all family members are in agreement with fostering a pet in need. All foster applicants must be 21 years of age or older and be able to pick up foster pets at our Adoption Center in Niles IL. All foster homes must be open to a "home check" and willing to apply for a IDOA Foster Home License (This is required by IL state law - there is a $25 fee payable to Illinois Departement Of Agriculture).

Foster Type: DOG & CAT (Adult)
Length Of Time Commitment: Until the pet finds an adoptive home 2 weeks to several months.
Adult pets are the ones most in need of a safe and nurturing environment to live in until their forever home is found. Often times these pets have never known the love that a family gives a pet. Many have lived their previous life outdoors, had little training, and are not used to car rides. Foster homes should be willing to crate train adult dogs and work on housebreaking and basic obedience skills. For those interested in fostering a kitty, they should have a small room to keep the animal in when they are not there to supervise (bathroom, extra bedroom, etc).

Foster Type: TEEN BOOT CAMP (4 months-9 months)
Length Of Time Commitment: 4 weeks
Older puppies are the most difficult to find homes for. They are not 8 week old balls of fluff and they are not mature dogs already through the training stages. Many adopters are either looking for a baby puppy or an adult pet. Many pass by the "teenagers" because these dogs have normally grown up in a shelter and have received minimal training. These dogs need "boot camp" to get them back on track. Boot Camp includes the foster family housebreaking and providing basic obedience training. It also requires the dog be socialized daily around people and other friendly pets.
